In fairness to Kemi Badenoch, if I was the leader of a party burning through it's political relevance, but which was the most successful party in politics up until now, I, too, would just start saying shit, just words, say the most mad shit you wake up with, it doesn't really matter at this point. Becuase, being the leader of the establishment party in British politics, basically everything you say has to get printed in the most read publications in the country and taken seriously, so you can force the BBC Politics editor to grill some poor Lib Dem MP on why they don't support making schoolchildren build warships and then chuckle as they flounder.
(I say "establishment party" as the Conservatives are basically the party of "the British Establishment" in a sense of that phrase.)
Off the back of a Guardian article's subtitle mentioning the 30 year gilt yield, I wondered how much UK government debt gets auctioned at that kind of maturity. Leading me to the attached graph, and a nightmare of Treasury DMO data cleanup (it's all very bad). Enjoy.
The Guardian's The Devil Wears Prada 2 review has the phrase "DWP connoisseurs" in the closing paragraph, and while I know they're acronymising Devil Wears Prada in reference to the first film I am enjoying the thought that there are people really into the Department of Work and Pensions who got a kick out of Anne Hathaway's outfit in one scene.
If I was a Labour backbencher and saw it was being reported that Sir Keir was meeting with the haunted fascist doll masquerading as the health secretary, after it was reported that he refused to meet with the PLP backbench committee, I would be personally insulted.
Keir Starmer does not understand that Labour did not win the 2024 General Election, they just did not lose it.
